St. Mary’s has long been associated with Music and the school Musical is very much part of the school tradition. In 1974 the late Mother Benedict introduced the people of Ballina to the wonderful talents of the St. Mary’s girls with the school production of “Zurika” and since then the school hall has echoes to the sounds of the great musical composers as the students performed to packed audiences in shows such as “Les Miserables” , “My Fair Lady”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Grease” amongst others.
2014 saw the school stage transformed into a Wild West setting for “Calamatious Jane” as the Deadwood stage rolled into St. Mary’s!
In 2015 the musical was “Hairsprayed” and the hall rocked to numbers such as “Bop to the Top” and “We are revolting students”.
2016 showcased the talents of the Transition year Class in “Illegally Blonde” which followed the story of Elle Woods and her unrequited love for the ambitious Warner Blake and the entire audience was energised by the wonderful song and dance of “Harvard Musical”.
Already plans are in progress for next years’ production so watch this space!
