Athletics has grown significantly in popularity at St. Mary's Secondary School in recent years, with an increasing number of students competing successfully at North Connacht, Connacht and All-Ireland level across a wide range of disciplines.
The athletics season begins with Cross Country competitions in February and March before moving to the Track and Field season, which runs from April through to the All-Ireland Championships in June. Students compete in a variety of events, including sprints, middle and long-distance races, relays, jumps and throws, representing the school with distinction at every stage.
Many of our athletes have achieved considerable success at provincial and national level, with outstanding performances earning qualification for the prestigious Schools' International Athletics Board (SIAB) International Championships. Here, they have the honour of representing Ireland against the top school athletes from England, Scotland and Wales.
Athletics at St. Mary's encourages participation at all levels, promoting fitness, determination, resilience and personal achievement. Whether competing for the first time or striving for national honours, our students are supported to reach their full potential while representing their school with pride and sportsmanship.
