The Student Council at St. Mary's Secondary School plays an important role in promoting student voice and fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive school community.
The Council provides students with the opportunity to actively contribute to school life by representing the views, ideas and interests of their classmates. Working in partnership with school management and staff, the Student Council helps to shape initiatives, celebrate student achievements and contribute to the ongoing development of the school.
Each class elects one representative to serve on the Student Council. These representatives listen to the views of their classmates, bring suggestions and concerns to Council meetings, and communicate outcomes and updates back to their class groups.
Supported by a dedicated teacher mentor, the Student Council encourages leadership, teamwork, responsibility and active citizenship. Through its work, students develop valuable communication and decision-making skills while helping to create a welcoming, respectful and positive learning environment for everyone.
At St. Mary's, we value the voice of every student and believe that the Student Council plays a vital role in ensuring that students are active partners in shaping school life.
