Traditional Irish music is another proud and vibrant part of life at St. Mary's Secondary School. Our talented Traditional Music Group comprises approximately 30 student musicians, many of whom are active members of local Comhaltas branches and have achieved outstanding success at county, provincial and All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competitions. Several members are proud All-Ireland champions.
The group plays a central role in many of the school's major events, including the annual Christmas Concert, where they regularly perform both independently and alongside the school choir and Irish dancers. Their music also enhances school liturgies, Masses, Recognition Day, Graduation ceremonies and other special celebrations throughout the year.
Our traditional musicians are regularly called upon to welcome distinguished visitors to the school, showcasing the rich musical heritage of Ireland. Most recently, they performed for ministers and dignitaries attending the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union meeting hosted at St. Mary's in July 2026.
Through their commitment, talent and enthusiasm, the members of the Traditional Music Group make an invaluable contribution to the cultural life of the school while proudly preserving and celebrating Ireland's rich musical tradition.
