School Self Evaluation

School Self-Evaluation (SSE)

At St. Mary's Secondary School, we are committed to continually improving the quality of teaching, learning and student wellbeing. School Self-Evaluation (SSE) is a collaborative, evidence-informed process that enables us to reflect on our practice, identify priorities for improvement and implement meaningful actions that enhance the educational experience of all our students.

School Self-Evaluation is an ongoing process involving school management, teachers, students, parents and the Board of Management. It ensures that decisions about school improvement are based on evidence and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for our students.

The School Improvement Plan (SIP)

As part of the School Self-Evaluation process, the school develops and implements a School Improvement Plan (SIP). This plan outlines:

  • Priority areas for improvement, with a clear focus on improving student learning and wellbeing.
  • Specific targets that the school aims to achieve.
  • The strategies and actions that will be implemented to meet these targets.
  • How progress will be monitored, reviewed and evaluated.
  • The timeframe for achieving each objective.

The School Improvement Plan is reviewed regularly to ensure that improvement remains an ongoing and sustainable process.

The Board of Management ensures that a summary of the School Self-Evaluation process and the School Improvement Plan is shared with the wider school community.

School Self-Evaluation Documents

The following documents outline our current School Self-Evaluation findings and our priorities for ongoing school improvement.

The School Self-Evaluation Report summarises the findings of our review process, while the School Improvement Plan outlines the actions, targets and timelines that guide our ongoing improvement.

Further information on School Self-Evaluation is available from the Department of Education website: School Self-Evaluation for Post-Primary Schools.
