Senior Cycle Redevelopment

Senior Cycle Redevelopment

Senior Cycle Redevelopment

Preparing students for the future through new approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.

What is Changing?

The Senior Cycle Redevelopment Programme is introducing important changes to the Leaving Certificate. The aim is to provide students with more opportunities to demonstrate their learning, develop key skills, and prepare for further education, apprenticeships and the world of work.

✔ Additional Assessment Components

Redeveloped subjects will include Additional Assessment Components (AACs) such as coursework, practical assessments, oral examinations and project work alongside the final written examination.

✔ Developing Skills

Students will have greater opportunities to demonstrate skills including research, communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

Coursework & Academic Integrity

Coursework will become an increasingly important part of Senior Cycle assessment. Students are expected to:

  • Complete all coursework as their own authentic work.
  • Work under the guidance and supervision of their class teacher.
  • Meet all State Examinations Commission deadlines.
  • Correctly reference all sources used.
  • Use Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly and only where permitted.
St. Mary's Secondary School is committed to supporting students and parents throughout these changes. Our teachers will continue to guide students through the new assessment arrangements and ensure they are fully prepared for Senior Cycle.
