At St. Mary’s, we are delighted to recognise the exceptional leadership that will shape our school community in the upcoming academic year. Not only are we proud of our newly appointed Senior Girls, but we also celebrate the selection and training of our Fourth Year mentors, who play a pivotal role in supporting First Year students.
Our mentoring system, a cornerstone of student support at St. Mary’s, has been established to help First Year students integrate smoothly into school life and to provide guidance as they navigate any challenges throughout the year. This year, twenty five were carefully selected from the Fourth Year class following a thorough application and interview process conducted by an external panel. Once chosen, these dedicated mentors received professional training through Foroige Youth Services, ensuring they are well-prepared for their vital role.
Each mentor is paired with four First Year students, whom they meet regularly, offering support and advice as needed. This close-knit connection fosters confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging among our youngest students. The preparation, training, and experience gained through this mentoring system has proven to be incredibly beneficial, not only for the mentees but also for the mentors themselves, providing them with invaluable skills in leadership, empathy, and communication.
